ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF COUNTRY

45 Rpm - 80s Retro Vinyl Australia would like to acknowledge the Indigenous peoples of Australia and Indigenous peoples from all around the world, as the custodians of the lands upon which we meet today. We would also like to pay respect and homage to all Indigenous elders past and present.

YAAMA!* / HELLO & WELCOME!

I am 80s-WIZARD

Although originally from Newcastle I now live in Sydney, a city of many independent record stores, op shops, and vinyl fairs. I have been a keen collector of 80s vinyl since 1985 and currently hold around 400, 45 / 7” singles from the 1980s, many of which are from Australian artists.

To this day I still enjoy the thrill of record digging. Vinyl and I are like familiar old friends,  yet there is always something more I can learn and appreciate about this great music medium.

Why 45s?

Back in the day, 45s were an alternative to buying a fully fledged vinyl LP album, as a young person still at school, with limited financial means, vinyl 45s were my best and cheapest option. They were  also small, compact and convenient, a great way to enjoy my favourite songs without having to search through individual tracks on a standard LP. You could just literally pull them straight out of their 45 cover sleeves and play them immediately on the turntable.

It seems the humble 45 rpm, their cover sleeves and artwork are usually over looked, amidst the dominant 33 1/3, 12” LPs and EP albums. However by dedicating this page sole to the 45s 7” single as a point of interest, vinyl collectors might be encouraged to enjoy one of the best, but less acknowledged treasures of Australias 1980s vinyl.

I envisage that this page could be a valuable reference for new collectors of Australian 45s vinyl singles, or for people who would like  to contribute, share or increase their knowledge of the 45/ 7" single format.

In addition to Australian 45s, this page will also showcase Australian pressings of 45 / 7" singles by international artists who have made a significant impact on the 1980s Australian singles charts.

Although I am not in anyway an 'expert' on 45s / 7" vinyl singles, or even a master on Australian 80s music, I can safetly say that I have a passion for it, and I hope to share whatever I know with others. If you love vinyl and have an interest in 45, 7" vinyl singles, feel free to connect, contribute and share.

At this moment in time, vinyl is slowly making its way into the consciousness of a whole new generation of young people. It has rekindled relationships with older generations of vinyl users, while re-igniting the passion of vinyl enthusiasts all over the world.

It's a great time and opportunity to examine and revere the warm sound of the 45s / 7" vinyl single. To take delight in their quirky cover sleeves, and that fantastic cover artwork we have come to know and love.

Please join me for the ride.~!

Regards

80s-Wizard
