Mondo Rock's "Summer Of '81" was the fourth and final single released from their album "Chemistry". Despite heavy rotation on AM radio at the time, the single only managed to peak at #31 on the Australian Singles Chart in December of 1981.  Although it's one of three 7" vinyl 45s I have from Mondo Rock, along side "Cool World" and "Baby Wants To Rock, it's still one of my all time favourites. This particular format of "Summer Of '81" is a limited edition 7" blue vinyl single that includes two live songs on its B side. These live tracks are brilliant and highlight the strength of Mondo Rocks live performances during this period of their career.  I found myself tending to like the B side more than the A side, it's really that good and a must for any fan of Mondo Rock.

I discovered this 45 buried in a box of old records at the back of a vintage bric-a-brac shop in my hometown of Newcastle, it was on sale for the mere price of 50c. The 7" single plays well on the turntable and is in excellent condition, with virtually no crackles or pops on the vinyl surface. It doesn't have a picture sleeve cover that envelopes the vinyl as you would expect with other 45s picture sleeve covers (see pics below). Instead, it has a printed cardboard cover on the front with the exposed blue vinyl 45 sitting behind, both are enclosed inside a clear plastic sleeve. Presented this way, I guess it highlights the blue vinyl as a point of  attraction for collectors.
