"Brass In Pocket" was the third single by U.K. band the Pretenders, it was released from their debut self-titled album in 1980. The single reached #2  on the Australian Singles Chart in May that year after climbing all the way to #1 in the U.K. and Ireland.

Side 2  of the 7" single Australian pressing follows the U.K. format and has two very short instrumental tracks, "Swinging London" and "Nervous But Shy". The U.S. and Canadian version of the 7" single omit these two tracks, replacing them with a song called "Space Invader".

The 7" single picture sleeve cover is very basic, with just the name of the group against a diagonal black and white background on the front. The sleeve repeats the design on the back but with the song titles and credits. The designer of the cover artwork is unknown.

The Pretenders gained national attention in Australia when "Brass In Pocket" became a massive radio hit across the country. Even today, it still receives significant airplay and is thought of as one of the most memorable early 80s rock tracks of all time.  It's certainly one of my favourite singles by the group, alongside their other hits "Back On The Chain Gang" (1982), "Don't Get Me Wrong" and " Hymn To Her" (1987). I'm glad to feature "Brass In Pocket" and the Pretenders as our international vinyl single and artist this month on the 45 RPM blog.  Below is a copy of an original 7" vinyl single Australian pressing of "Brass In Pocket".
